What is Nomication?

Nomination is the first step in the process of electing a candidate for office or bestowing an honor. It is someone’s nomination when they are officially recommended as a contender.

You’ve been nominated for Best Animated Film at a film festival, which means you’ll be one of the directors competing for the prize. A nomination is a big honor in and of itself, as it indicates that you’ve been picked to be on a short list of potential winners. Major party nominations are normally made after a primary election in presidential elections; the party’s nomination is its official endorsement of a candidate. Nominationem is a Latin root that means “to name.”

A candidate who has been chosen to represent or is sponsored by a political party is referred to as the party’s nominee in elections for public office. According to the rules of the party and any applicable election laws, the selection process may be based on one or more primary elections or a political party convention or caucus. The procedure is known as preselection in some countries.

Endorsements or testimonials are public professions of support for a candidate’s nomination.

Nominations are normally closed when no one else wishes to make one. This is accomplished without the use of a move (using a form of unanimous consent). It is not possible to use a move to shut nominations to prevent a member from making a nomination. Some members are blatantly postponing the election by nominating people who have no chance of being elected, which is a legitimate use of a resolution to end nominations. Closing nominations requires a two-thirds vote, whereas reopening them just requires a majority vote.
