What Time Is The Queen’s Funeral?

Tomorrow, September 19, is The Queen’s funeral day, which has been designated as a bank holiday. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., and the procession will leave Westminster Hall at 10.35 a.m. At noon, there will be a two-minute worldwide moment of quiet. The fact that Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral defies centuries of custom shows that she made history while she was still alive. For the first time since King George II’s funeral in 1760, her funeral will be placed at Westminster Abbey. The St. George’s Chapel at Windsor has historically served as the site of British monarch’s and queens’ funerals.

At Westminster Abbey, Prince William and Catherine, the future Prince and Princess of Wales, were married as well as Diana, Princess of Wales’s funeral.

London’s Westminster Abbey, it’s believed, is regarded as more accessible and will allow more people to take part.

6.30 a.m.: End of lying-in-state at Westminster Hall. 8 a.m.: The 2,000 invited guests can enter Westminster Abbey, where the funeral will be held, three hours early. 10.35am: Her Majesty The State Gun Carriage will transport the Queen’s coffin from Westminster Hall, where HM is currently lying in state, to Westminster Abbey. Before arriving to the Abbey, a procession will travel via New Palace Yard, Parliament Square, Broad Sanctuary, and the Sanctuary. King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Prince William, and Prince Harry will all accompany the procession, which will be accompanied by bagpipes and muffled drums. 10.52 a.m.: The Queen’s casket will arrive at Westminster Abbey’s Great West Door.

The Queen’s funeral will start at 11 a.m. and 11.55 a.m.: The Last Post will signal the end of the funeral. 12 p.m.: Following The Queen’s funeral, there will be a two-minute silence in the UK. 12.15 p.m.: Following the funeral, the Queen’s casket will be transported to Windsor by gun carriage from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch near Hyde Park Corner.

Through Parliament Square, Parliament Street, Whitehall, Horse Guards (including Horse Guards Arch and Horse Guards Road), The Mall, Queen’s Gardens, and ultimately Constitution Hill and Apsley Way, King Charles and other members of the Royal Family will follow the coffin to Wellington Arch.

1 p.m.: Immediately following this time, Her Majesty’s coffin will be transferred from the State Gun Carriage to the State Hearse and driven on an as-yet-unknown route from London to Windsor. 3.15 p.m.: At Shaw Farm Gate on Albert Road in Windsor, the last procession via the Long Walk to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle gets underway. The King and members of the Royal Family will once more process behind the State Hearse. At 4 p.m., the Dean of Windsor will conduct a televised Committal Service as the Queen’s casket is brought into St. George’s Chapel. 7.30 p.m.: The Queen and Prince Philip will be quietly buried at Windsor Castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel.
