Charlize Theron says she’s “not ashamed” to talk about her mother’s self-defense killing of her father. When her drunken father shot through the bedroom door where she and her mother were hiding, the actress was 15 years old.
“It’s a marvel that none of the bullets hit us. However, she ended the threat in self-defense “According to NPR, the actress said. “The more we discuss these issues, the more we understand we are not alone.”
Charlize grew up on a farm with her mother, Gerda, and father, Charles, in Johannesburg, South Africa. She recalls her father as a “very sick man” who lived in “a really terrible scenario” with an alcoholic.
“The unpredictability of living with a chemical addict is something that will mark you for the rest of your life, more than that one-night occurrence,” she says.
The actress claims that her father was so inebriated that he “shouldn’t have been able to walk when he walked into the house with a revolver.”
